I'm 47. I generally get them only when I wake up without an alarm clock. But most mornings I get up with an alarm clock, so they are kind of hit or miss.
To answer your question, they're not really "morning erections." They're nocturnal erections. The body cycles through them several times a night. In order to have one when you wake, you must awake from the stage of sleep which includes the erection. That's why the alarm makes a difference. It rousts me from sleep at any of the stages, not just the one with erections. But most men have erections in REM sleep, and they naturally awaken from that stage, with the erection still intact.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
