How Is HCG Manufactured? (Abortion by-product?)

Postby Hoosier52 » Mon Mar 13, 2017 3:55 pm

I met my new PCP today. She is a Nurse Practioner. When she saw that I inject HCG she asked if I knew where it came from. She believes that it comes from the placenta after birth and maybe after abortions. I told her that I would check.

What I have found so far is that it comes from the urine of pregnant women and the ovaries of pregnant hamsters. IF it is associated with abortions, I will stop using it. Does anyone have any info on this?

According to Wikipedia:

In Pregnyl, Follutein, Profasi, Choragon and Novarel, it is extracted from the urine of pregnant women. In Ovidrel, it is produced with recombinant DNA technology. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_cho ... Production

They don't say where they get the DNA to make Ovidrel out of.

It seems that it could be extracted from placentas, but that doesn't seem to be the way they get it.

Is the stuff expensive? I'm surprised it isn't synthesized out of soybeans like everything else.

I've read and my PCP said that the synthetic HCG is very expensive.
